Arizona State University

arizona state universityArizona State University, also known as ASU, was established in 1885 and is a public university primarily located in Phoenix, Arizona. They have five Phoenix campuses and four other campuses throughout Arizona including Tempe, Glendale, and Mesa.  Most recently they were rated by the U.S. News & World Report to be No 1 among the Most Innovative Schools in America, ranked 62nd among nearly 1,800 public universities, and is ranked among the top research universities in the U.S.  The Graduate students are able to work with the top researchers and faculty.   At no surprise, it is the largest public university in the U.S as it is home to more than 600 accredited, top-ranked degree options.  It is also considered the 2nd largest campus in the United States.

Activities

ASU is known as the Arizona State Sun Devils.  ASU competes in 25 varsity sports and are members of the Pac-12 Conference, the NCAA Division and multiple other athletic clubs and recreational facilities.  They also provide over 1,100 student organizations which reflects the diversity of their student body and still continues to expand.  They have an active extracurricular program that provides opportunities for student involvement through clubs, sororities, fraternities, community service, leadership, student government, and co-curricular programming. Gold and Maroon are their school colors.  Gold signifies the “golden promise” and maroon signifies sacrifice and bravery.

Academics

Although ASU’s academic programs are spread throughout their different campuses, they are different than most multi-campus institutions.  They consider each campus to be distinctive in their own. The Tempe campus is the university’s research and graduate school center and is also considered their largest campus. It also houses all of the university’s athletic facilities.  The West Campus is located in Glendale and is home to the New College of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences.  Their Polytechnic campus is located in Mesa and is the home of more than over 40 Bachelors’, Master’s and Doctoral degrees in professional and technical programs and focuses on programs that include simulators and lab space.  The Downtown Phoenix campus houses the College of Health Solutions, College of Nursing and Health Innovation and will soon include ASU’s law school later this year. ASU also has a campus in Lake Havasu City for undergraduates only at lower tuition rates than any of ASU’s other campuses.  Lastly, ASU offers more than 100 undergraduate programs online.  ASU offers over 250 majors to undergraduate students, and more than 100 graduate programs leading to numerous Masters and Doctoral degrees in the liberal arts and sciences, design and arts, engineering, journalism, education, business, law, nursing, public policy, technology, and sustainability.  ASU is one of the nation’s most successful universities in creating startup companies.  They are also involved with NASA in the field of space exploration.

Arizona State offers on-campus living arrangements on all three campuses.  Each dormitory is identified with a specific college, institute major, or sport and are relatively close to buildings they major in.  They also provide residential halls for the upper division housing and Greek life housing.

It’s a university competing at the national level for students and athletes, for good reason. Please contact me regarding any questions you might have about ASU.
